The Age of Optimism

Hi, my name's Cindy. I'm a writer and work in advertising. While my life in the ad world helps feed The Age of Optimism, The Age of Optimism keeps the quirk, soul and perspective alive. At least that's how it stands right now. Lets see where it leads. Please share the art and copy as it appears here, providing it's for non-commercial purposes. If you have something commercial in mind, please get in touch.

There’s this irritating reality in advertising, where you have these walking-cliches saying things like, “Girls aren’t funny,” or “I have to turn into a dude to function in the boys club,” or “You have to be a raging bitch to be taken seriously.” And then after a while you get past that and realize that it’s this whole sham. You don’t have to lose your fem to be badass. Cute and badass can actually co-exist, and it’s a hell of a lot more interesting than another frat boy telling another easy fart joke. We all dig the fart joke, and most women can write them, appreciate them, but will still ask, “What else you got?” Then there’s the occasional agency, (so far for me and the folks I talk to, it’s usually in the US,) where you realize the boys club is an impenetrable fortress of political-egotistical-dudeness, at least until you bring out the metaphorical blow torch and start soldering shit, and that’s usually a pretty good day.
